I've wanted to do a Tomb Raider cosplay for a looong time, but it took the 2013 reboot to finally jump start the project. They did an amazing job on this game...the graphics are gorgeous and the story is intriguing and can I just say how glorious it is that Lara finally looks like a real person?? I'm so excited to finally get to be Lara.
About the gear/weapons:
The bow&arrows are real and I debated for a long time whether I wanted to use them for Lara or not. In the end, I decided to use them; I distressed the bow and added the carved design to get it as close to Lara's as possible. It still works beautifully and now looks more badass when I take it shooting.
Initially, I wanted a real one. I wanted to be able to use it in some of the rock walls at the location site, but dude, ice axes are silly expensive. Since I have little desire to take up mountain climbing anytime soon, buying one didn't seem like a sensible investment. I really dreaded making one for fear of not being able to make it realistic enough, but in the end, I am much happier with the one I made than I would have been with a real one.
Both are air soft guns that I painted, distressed, and aged. The shotgun goes through a lot of upgrades in the game, but I chose to stick with the WW2 era model. I decided against adding the rifle because it was one gun too many to comfortably carry, and of the two, I favored the shotgun anyway.
