The American Dream by Rose0fMay The American Dream by Rose0fMay
Due to my volunteer work with the Avengers Initiative (as Supergirl), I was asked to submit a Marvel character costume for membership with West Coast Avengers. Originally, I had two other characters of interest, but ultimately neither of them felt right, and I prolonged applying, wondering if I was going to find a Marvel lady who resonated with me as well as Supergirl does.

This is (basically) how the conversation went down:
WCA: "Rose, you need a Marvel character to be officially brought into our group."
Me: "K."
WCA: "Shield agents are very easy to put together for the sake of the initial application."
Me: "Mreh."
WCA: "Captain America could always use USO girls. How about you do one of the USO girls?"
Me: "I'd rather be Captain America."
WCA: "In that case, let me introduce you to American Dream."

So. I picked up her comics and I truly loved her, her story, and her history. So I said "yes, Dream, I'll strap myself into a unitard for you."

On a more personal level, my grandparents came to the USA during WW2 from Russia. They didn't like to talk about what happened during the war, and were grateful to have have gotten over here at all. Most of my earliest memories are of my grandpa. Though I mourn the loss of our eastern European culture due to his adamant insistence on assimilation, I know that ultimately, my life was improved because of him. He'd be hella proud of this today. This one's for you, gramps.

One of my favorite characters ever!  Awesome job.  I love the idea of posing with the motorcycle.   If only you could find a motorcycle with an awesome American themed paint job....

great shot of great cosplay of a great character.

Very nice! I've never seen a cosplay based on any character from the M2 universe before, and I have to say, you pull her off quite well. For the record, the M2 universe is also where Peter and Mary Jane have a daughter who becomes Spider-Girl; it's a less-publicised alternate universe from Marvel.

Yes! Dream shows up in one of the Spider Girl comics as well :3

I think you could have left the bike alone because Dream's motorcycle is actually black, but the background looks awesome! Thanks!

:) Thanks.

Well there I go, getting caught not knowing enough about a character! lol. Well it was a bit fun anyways, plus I wanted to still make it 'darker' in color, but to have the colors. Ya know, you wouldn't want just ANYBODY thinking it's their bike ;).

Great costume, I love the fact that you really look like a female version of Steve Rogers, hence the blond hair. How much was the costume? It looks pretty decent for cosplay.
Rose0fMay Featured By Owner Jul 2, 2012
Lol, how much? How do want to calculate that? Cost of materials alone? Salary to myself for the hours I put into patterning, sewing, sanding, and painting? I made everything except the shield.
GreenDragonZordRange Featured By Owner Jul 3, 2012
Oh wow, you made that by hand? I am clapping where I am sitting. Seriously, no sarcasm. It's really well done, and I'd say worth it! So I'm sure with all the sweat and blood that went into this, you'll make sure to keep this suit around, hopefully for conventions of other cosplay photo shoots?
